He attended Pinehurst School and was a member of the school A.T.C. SQUADRON He worked at the G.W.R. works as a coach painter until he was "called up". He served in the Royal Air Force from 1943 until 1947 as a Wireless Operator and drection finder. He was posted to India and Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) and finally at R.A.F. Lyneham. At varying times in his worklife he worked for The Royal Military College of Science at Shrivenham and finished his working life employed by Social Services at the Salvation Army Hostel, Turl Street, Swindon where he was a painter and decorator and a general handyman. He retired in 1991..
